A Fresh Start for Sharpsburg: Harvest on Main Community Market Coming Soon

Second Harvest is excited to announce the upcoming opening of Harvest on Main Community Market, a brand-new nonprofit fresh food market designed to nourish our community and bring healthy, affordable food options back to Sharpsburg. Harvest on Main is on track to open its doors in early 2026. For decades Sharpsburg residents have struggled without easy access to fresh groceries. As one lifelong Sharpsburg resident told us, “I remember when there were a lot of little corner stores. We would go get penny candy and bread and lunch meat.” Now, says another neighbor, “I see many of my friends buying their groceries at Family Dollar. There’s nothing fresh there. And that’s a problem if you buy most of your groceries there.” Harvest on Main Community Market is here to change that. Closing the Food Gap Did you know that there is nowhere to buy a banana in Sharpsburg? The nearest grocery store is nearly two miles away—and for many residents without reliable transportation, that’s a barrier to healthy eating. Harvest on Main Community Market will shrink the distance to the closest grocery store to just a few blocks for many residents, and be accessible on the bus line for many others [...]
